7:15 a.m. Freshman Katherine Strait enjoys a breakfast of homemade ramen in her kitchen before school. The ramen was leftovers from dinner the night before. “I’ve never been a fan of traditional breakfast foods—a lot of them aren’t accessible to me because of food allergies, and the rest aren’t that good—so I usually end up reheating last night’s supper,” Strait said.

8:27 a.m. Sophomore Lucy Finn chops garlic in culinary arts class, working with a group to cook stir fry. Students in culinary arts spend about one class a week cooking dishes. “I really like to be hands on and to do stuff in the kitchen,” Finn said. “My favorite dish we made this year was crepes. The cooking process required a new skill, pouring batter in the pan, pushing it around, and flipping it.”

8:34 a.m. Freshman Vincent Altamuro studies for a Physics unit test on energy. After the Physics Lab class, Altamuro went to the library to prepare for a test he had March 11. “I liked to go over my old homework before a test and check my answers to make sure I know what I’m doing,” Altamuro said.

8:47 a.m. Sophomore Ave March poses with her racket in first-period Team Games and Sports class. The class’s badminton tournament culminated with a championship match between the final two teams. “When you sign up for the competitive class, it’s going to be competitive,” March said. “Some sports we play are harder than others, but the same people always take them very seriously and make the class more exciting.”

9 a.m. Sophomore Kyra Welton brews tea at the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center provided tea, coloring books, board games, mindfulness videos, kinetic sand, and a zen garden. “It’s nice to have the Wellness Center available as a resource and a place to go during the school day. My friends and I like to go get tea because it’s fun and a nice refreshment,” Welton said.

9:20 a.m. Freshman Lizzy Littleton sets the ball to pass to freshman Amelia Garavagla. Before the girls started playing the game, they warming up, practicing their sets, dumps and hits. “This volleyball unit has really taught me how to communicate with my classmates, telling them if I have the ball or if them to hit it has helped me with fast communication,” Garavagla said.

9:30 a.m. Sophomore Megan Tai codes a game for her AP Computer Science project. The game Tai created allows the user to play a would you rather scenario. “My friend Mai came up with the idea, and now we’re applying what we’ve learned to make it,” Tai said. “It’s challenging to meet the requirements and apply the code.”

1:10 p.m. Freshmen students Isaac Mwale, Hunter Dockman and William England spend lab time working on homework before going to The Center of Clayton to play soccer. The boys used the lab time to complete school work, get food and practice soccer. “We get better at Physics when we have this time to work together. It’s nice to have the time to work on Physics and reward ourselves with soccer at the end,” England said.

3:29 p.m. Sophomore Connor Riley drives home from school to Ballwin, Mo. The 25-minute ride brings them past places like West County Mall and other shopping centers. “I would prefer to live a little closer so I could see my friends more,” Riley said. “But the drive isn’t too bad. I usually listen to industrial metal music. It takes my mind off of my day.”
