What issues matter to you the most in this election? Why?
The issues that matter most to me are inflation, illegal immigration and crime; I think those are our three main problems.
How do those issues connect to your life and the lives of those you care about?
Inflation is hard on me and my family because we don’t have that much money. Prices have gone up in the last four years, and that’s affecting how my family will vote in this election. With illegal immigration, many people can come into our country with no restrictions whatsoever, and we don’t know who they are, where they came from and what they can do. We need to finish building the wall so we make it so [people] have to come in legally. We can do full background checks on everybody who comes in and ensure they’re good people, just looking for a better life.
When did you first start caring about these issues? Was there an event that happened or a conversation you had that piqued your interest?
I think just over time; I’ve gotten more into [politics] because I want to live in a nice place.
Do you think people your age can affect meaningful change regarding these issues? Why or why not? Have you ever taken any steps to try to address these problems?
We can’t do anything major to help these issues because we can’t vote.
Have you been following the presidential race? Do you know where the two candidates, former President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, stand on your issues? Which candidate, if either, do you think will make positive changes to the things you care about? Why?
I think Donald Trump would make a positive change in everything because while he was president, everything was better. The prices were way down compared to how they are, and we had a southern border. We weren’t getting ripped off in international trade.
Are there other candidates for local, state or federal offices who have the power to make positive change about the issues that matter most to you? Who are they, and why do you hope they are elected?
I think that Josh Hawley is really good because [of] what happened in Butler, Pennsylvania when Trump got shot. They’re trying to cover it up, and he and a bunch of other senators are trying to do their own research [to] see what actually happens.
Do you think young voters will be energized by the 2024 election? Do you predict that they will be motivated to vote this year? Why or why not?
Since we see more stuff online and are surrounded by other people’s thoughts, people will be more energized to go put in their thoughts at the polls.
