On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the sophomore class gathered at Shaw Park to participate in the sophomore challenge. Throughout the day, students rotated through team-building stations run by seniors. In this station, the rope represented an “electric fence,” and the sophomores had to find a way to get over the fence without touching it. Sophomore Lydia Lee balances on buckets to get over the obstacle.

Sophomore Brody Mitchell balances a cone on his head as he walks around a tree obstacle course. “I was a little bit worried about it because I never really liked field day in elementary school, but [Sophomore Challenge] was great to get outside for a day and meet some people in my grade I haven’t ever met before,” Mitchell said. “I think [the station] was fun because I was good at it. It was nice to see everyone helping each other out since if you dropped your cone, you had to wait for someone else to pick it up.”

At the jump roping station, sophomore Charles Levy joins the jump ropers to see how many people can participate. Senior Ben Koster led the event and said the group that won had nine participants jump four times, but when the groups were combined, 12 students jumped six times. “My favorite part of the sophomore challenge was the jump roping station because it was really funny when we kept messing up and had to keep restarting,” sophomore Sara Vitsky said.
