Cory Wong Comes to The Pageant

February 23, 2023

Cory Wong (Vulfpeck, Fearless Flyers) came Thursday, February 16th, 2023 to The Pageant alongside Victor Wooten (Bela Fléck and the Flecktones) and Trousdale, bringing a packed house.

Opener Trousdale (Quinn D’Andrea, Georgia Greene, Lauren Jones) began the concert with powerful harmonies on songs like “Always, Joni” and “Wouldn’t Come Back”. Later, the group joined Wong on “Crisis”.

With unyieldingly funky and energetic guitar, Wong alongside band members Sonny T. (bass), Petar Janjic (drums), Kenni Holmen (sax, piccolo), Eddie Barbash (sax), Jake Botts (sax), Jay Webb (trumpet), Micheal Nelson (trombone) and Kevin Gastonguay (keys) opened with the 20th Century Fox theme, then launched into hits like “Assassin”, “Let’s Go!” and “Cory Wong”. Wong played songs from the tour album “Power Station” alongside previous hits.

Midway through the concert, Victor Wooten joined to play the Bela Fléck and the Flecktones song, “Stomping Grounds”, and stayed to play an audience-requested “Dean Town”.

Wong alongside Wooten and Trousdale closed with encore “Synchronicity”. From a middle school dance medley, to “Bluebird” played on mini instruments, the concert provided a much-needed slice of funk and guitar to St. Louis.
