Li Na, Winner of the Women’s Final in the Australian Open. A remarkable new title for this 31-year-old tennis player. Growing up in the small province of Wuhan, China, she learned to play badminton with her father, at first that was all she did, until her father passed away, and at age 14. Then she was convinced to switch to tennis. Â Already at age 16, she became a professional tennis player.
In 2011, she was able to play in the French Open, and Australian Open but not with great success. After her long losing streak, she attended the French Open again, this time being the first Chinese to ever win a Grand Slam title.
In 2014, her biggest accomplishment was beating the greatest Grand Slam finalist, Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets at the Australian Open. This has been the first time that a Chinese woman has ever won the Australian Open, at the age of 31, is very amazing.
