Forget online bullying: anonymous online compliments are all the rage at Clayton High School.
On April 2, 2013, a Facebook profile picture depicting a rose in full bloom popped onto the screens of students across Clayton. Â The name of the profile was self explanatory. “Chs Admirers.”
The only message from the site’s mysterious administrator instructed CHS students to use the site as an anonymous way to compliment or, less commonly, profess their love for their fellow students.
The idea quickly caught the attention of the student body. Â Within the first 48 hours, 12 students had already received the honor of an anonymous post. Â Most of them were simple, polite and friendly.
Posts ranged from:
“Jane Smith* is so amazingly funny, talented and gorgeous.”
To the simple:
“Dan Smith* is gorgeous.”
To the outright outrageous:
“John Brown*Â is dapper, dashing, and devilishly handsome. He’s like the perfect cross between Clark Kent, Charlton Heston, and Michael Cera. He’s the lovechild of a lightning-bolt and a cheetah, with a running form that’s smoother than silk. Watch out for his stormy blue eyes, too—he’s got a heart-breaking stare that leaves his visage etched into the fabric of your very soul.”
It seems that the anonymity of the site has emboldened CHS students. Â Many are attracted to the idea of using the internet as a means of spreading happiness.
So as students bend under the stress of last minute homework and impending exams, they only have to look to the small, rose colored profile at the edge of their computer screen. It’s enough to make anyone smile.
