The CHS Math team, represented by senior Chris Cormier and junior Jeffrey Cheng, won the Dec. 7th Greater Plains Math League Competition (GPML) at Fox High School. Â The event was a 4-part test-based competition, viz. a speed-based “Sprint” round, an accuracy-based “Target” Round, a cooperation-based “Team” round, and the “Relay” round. Â Although outnumbered by larger schools and unable to participate in the Relay round due to the 3-person requirement, the Clayton team did extremely well, taking 1st place in the “Team” test and the overall “Sweepstakes” award, which is determined by an aggregate of the team and individual tests. Â Individual awards included a 3rd place finish in the senior division’s Sprint round and and 1st place finishes in the junior division’s Sprint, Target, and Overall categories. Â Both of the Clayton participants have qualified for the state competition by virtue of their individual scores; the state competition will occur on April 12th in Columbia, MO.
