Black Friday Aftermath
A recap of 2013’s Black Friday shows that this year is not exempt from violence. This year, we saw only one death, caused by falling asleep while driving, which in turn was also the cause of four injuries. Out of the 90 injuries (since 2008), 15 occurred this year. Causes included shootings, stabbings, and brawls that happened over the course of the night. Even an 11-year-old made it to the hospital because of the sales. In previous years, the same type of injuries and deaths have happened. In 2008, ten shoppers were injured due to a stampede of people, and in 2011, 20 people were injured in a mass spraying of pepper spray by an off-duty police officer.
This really makes us consider how far people will really go to save money, or spend all of it, in a short amount of time. Is it really worth it?
Fortunately, there haven’t been any death counts for Cyber Monday. If we did, there would be some major problems.
