Chanting and drums could be heard as people made their way into Washington University’s Francis Field house. On Saturday March 16 Washington University hosted the 23rd annual Native American Pow Wow. Lasting almost six hours the Pow Wow provided the audience with Native American dance and song as well as many small stands selling things from beads to knives.
The audience seemed mystified as an Apache warrior performed his ancient victory dance, and during some dances they had a chance to join in as well. Children ran danced out on the floor with traditional dancers while parents watched and took pictures. Perhaps the stand that brought the most visitors was the food stand. Foods such as fry bread and Indian tacos were served, and the people seemed to love it.  At its longest, the line was close to a half an hour wait, but with a chance to eat a piece of Native culture it was worth it. The hope was that after the Pow Wow people would walk away happy and having a better insight into native culture, and next year for people to come again to join in on the celebrations.
