Out of  1,344 print, digital and hybrid publications, magazines and yearbooks published, only 48 were nominated for the annual Gold Crown Award of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), and the CHS Globe was one of them.
Since its start in 1982, the Gold and Silver Crown Awards are the highest awards for print or online media created by students given by the CSPA. The costest is judged by “Crown Judges” who are chosen carefully by CSPA’s Executive Director, Edmund J. Sullivan, and winners have to be chosen by consensus.
In the 84 years that the Globe has existed, we have only been able to win five Silver Crown Awards, but never a Gold Crown Award. The results for the final winners of the Gold Crown Award is released in March of 2013. Even though the CHS Globe may not win, at least we know that our magazine is becoming better and better.
Combined with being awarded the Pacemaker Award for two years in a row, the Globe has never won so many awards in only a few years as we have done now. The would not have been possible without the hard work of all of Globe writers and editors with great help from our advisor, Erin Castellano.
