The girls’ basketball team fell to 1 – 1 after a 56-36 loss to the Principia Panthers, the top ranked team in Missouri.
Though the Greyhounds forced numerous turnovers early, strong three point shooting by Yulia Marquardt, a Principia junior, put the Panthers up for good. After the first quarter, the Greyhounds were only down 18-12. However, strong Panther defense increased the deficit to 29-14 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Clayton clawed back. The Greyhounds outscored Principia 12-11, cutting the Principia lead to 14.
In the fourth quarter though, the Panters pulled away, scoring 16 points.
Clayton forward Lacei Sams scored 13 points in the loss. Sams has reached double figures in both games this season.
