Neil Armstrong, the first man ever to take a step on the moon, has died at age 82.
Armstrong’s family has released a statement about his death. They said he died of, “complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures.”
In 1969, Armstrong traveled to the moon on the flight Apollo 11. His partner for the voyage was Buzz Aldrin, who is currently retired. Armstrong famously said the words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for man kind.”
Along with being an astronaught, Armstrong also served in the navy during the Korean war.
“Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty,” the Armstrong family said. “(A)nd the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.”
